General questions about Atelier Black Forest

Atelier Black Forest is a second-generation family business. We reflect on our place of origin, the Black Forest. At the same time, we are guided by our creativity and our time in the design city par excellence, Copenhagen. As a result, we see ourselves more as a studio for beautiful things that originate from the Black Forest, merge with influences from Scandinavia and create products that feel like home for everyone.

Hygge simply describes the Nordic lifestyle of coziness and well-being. Enjoying the moment, spending quality time with friends and family. Making yourself feel at ease, especially in the dark, cold Scandinavian winter months, and creating a relaxed, warm atmosphere at home.

We want to create this feeling with our natural products. Our core products are our cozy, warm slippers, which give everyone a hygge feeling when they wear them. As we ourselves have spent part of our lives in Denmark, we found the combination of the Black Forest x Scandinavia, i.e. our origins and the "hygge" attitude to life, and natural, Scandinavian design totally fitting. And that is how Atelier Black Forest came into being.

Questions about products

We attach great importance to the highest quality and sustainability in the procurement of our lambskins and sheepskins. Our skins come primarily from regional sources and other European countries, such as France and the Netherlands. However, we are particularly proud of supporting local sheep farms in our region, which are spread from the Upper Black Forest, through the Kinzig Valley to the Southern Black Forest.

Wir lassen in einer Manufaktur jedes Paar Hausschuhe in Handarbeit produzieren, wobei wir eine Vielzahl von Naturtönen verwenden. Aufgrund dieser handwerklichen Herangehensweise kann es vorkommen, dass bestimmte Farben und Größen schneller ausverkauft sind als andere.

Don't worry, you're not bringing a sheepfold into your own four walls with our products. Nevertheless, you should be aware that we work with the natural materials lambskin and leather. Our natural products therefore have their own natural scent. For sensitive noses, this slight smell may seem unfamiliar at first when you open the package. However, this disappears when worn and is thus aired. Please also follow our care instructions and avoid contact with water.

Every product is unique! Despite our high quality and production standards and the careful selection of materials used, it can always happen that, for example, the color properties differ slightly. And even if our products look almost identical, there is still meticulous manual work behind every product. That's why our motto is: unique & natural!

Lambskin has natural advantages and is wonderfully temperature-regulating. In cold temperatures, the lambskin warms comfortably, while in summer it prevents heat build-up and has a cooling effect and absorbs moisture. Lambskin is breathable, self-cleaning and easy to care for!

Our medical skins, which are often shorn to a length of 3 cm and have a pale yellow color, are treated with a state-of-the-art synthetic tanning method called Relugan. This special tanning, also known as "medical tanning", is of outstanding importance for use in medical applications and beyond. It has proven to be extremely skin-friendly and is therefore particularly suitable for products such as bed pads, baby furs for baby carriages as well as chairs and sofas.

An outstanding advantage of Relugan tanning is its exceptional ease of care. These skins can be washed at a temperature of 30°C, which makes cleaning and care much easier (see our blog or the care instructions in the product categories . For this reason, they are often called “medical furs”. In the medical field, be it in care or as a seat cover in a wheelchair, it is essential that the skins used are washable.

Washing: You can easily clean the medically tanned lambskins yourself. Either hand wash or use the delicate cycle of your washing machine at a maximum of 30°C. It is best to use a special fur or wool detergent and add enough fabric softener to keep the leather supple.

Drying: After washing, you should spin the lambskin gently and then air dry or tumble dry at a low temperature. Make sure that it is not exposed to direct sunlight, heating or the fireplace. During the drying process, regularly pull the lambskin in different directions to loosen the leather fibers and prevent them from hardening. Before the lambskin is completely dry, you can knead it or pull it over a round edge, such as the back of a chair. You will notice how this makes the leather more supple.

Combing: To get the hair smooth, a simple combing is required. It is best to use a fur brush, dog brush with steel teeth, etc. You can also find step-by-step instructions in our blog entry.

We strive to process and ship all incoming orders as quickly as possible. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that changes are always possible. In all cases, we recommend contacting us via email as quickly as possible and if your order has not yet been shipped, we will be happy to try to implement your change request.

We need the following information from you if you would like to have an address changed:


  • Order number

  • Previous address information

  • New / Correct address

Similar to the above, we cannot guarantee that changes will be possible once your order has been placed, depending on whether your package has already been packed and shipped or is still in the studio. We recommend that you contact us immediately at hello@atelierblackforest.com

We need the following information from you if you have ordered the wrong product:

Shipping

We strive for fast shipping so that you can experience the cozy warmth of our fur items as soon as possible. Orders are usually processed on the same day, at the latest within 1-2 days. Public holidays and weekends excluded. If the processing time is delayed due to external variables, we will always contact you by e-mail or telephone.

Depending on the country of delivery, you can expect a delivery time of 2-5 days. To get a rough estimate, see the following overview for delivery times by country. Tip: Track your shipment via shipment tracking (not available in all countries!)

Shipping time

Germany: Estimated delivery time of 1-3 working days

Zone 1 (BE, DK, LUX, NL, AT, PL, SVK, CZ): Estimated delivery time of 3-5 working days

Zone 2 (EST, FR, LVA, LTU, PRT, ESP, SWE): Estimated delivery time of 3-5 business days

Zone 3 (FIN, IRL): Estimated delivery time of 4-5 working days

After completion of the contract (if advance payment has been agreed, after the time of your payment notification). Please note that there is no delivery on Sundays and public holidays. If you have ordered items with different delivery times, we will send the goods in a single shipment unless we have agreed otherwise with you. In this case, the delivery time is determined by the item with the longest delivery time that you have ordered.

Delivery always takes place from Monday to Saturday with our shipping partner DPD Deutschland GmbH.

Shipping within Germany

We calculate the shipping costs based on the order value (gross value of the goods).

  • Goods value up to €59.00 = €4.95
  • Shipping is free for orders over €59.00

Shipping to German islands is higher and is charged separately; Shipping costs can be requested individually here.

Delivery abroad

We calculate the shipping costs based on the order value (gross value of the goods).

Belgium, Denmark (Faroe Islands and Greenland not included), Luxembourg, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic

  • Goods value up to €100.00 = shipping €13.50
  • Shipping is free for orders over €100.00

Estonia, France (overseas departments not included), Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Spain (Canary Islands, Ceuta + Mellila not included), Sweden

  • Goods value up to €120.00 = shipping €15.50
  • Shipping is free for orders over €120.00

Finland (Åland Islands not included), Ireland

  • Goods value up to €130.00 = shipping €18.50
  • Shipping is free for orders over €120.00

Returns & Refund

Would you like to exchange a product? We do not offer a direct exchange option for items. The quickest and easiest way is to return all unwanted items to us and simply order the desired replacement item via our online store. This way you will receive your fluffy product much faster. As soon as we have received and processed your return, we will refund the purchase price immediately.

We understand that sometimes products simply don't meet your expectations and you want to return them stress-free. We accept returns within 14 days of receipt of the goods, as long as the product is still in its original condition.

Please make sure that your items are securely packed and cannot be damaged in transit. If possible, use the cardboard box in which the goods were delivered and tape it carefully.

Then simply attach the returns label to the outside, all old shipping labels or stickers should be removed or made unrecognizable. You can then hand in the parcel free of charge at the nearest DPD branch and, as the parcel is your responsibility until we have received it, we strongly recommend that you issue a proof of dispatch.

Please upload a photo of the affected area in the attachment and state your order and invoice details. We will then process your complaint and find a suitable solution together (replacement, refund...).

After we have received your return, you will be notified by e-mail (please note: depending on the country, it may take a few working days before we receive your package). We will then arrange to process your return quickly and refund the amount immediately using the payment method you selected previously. Depending on the payment method used, it may take a few additional days for the refunded amount to appear in your account.
